Painted sculptures

From 2023 Joke Van Eyck started working on 1) ‘Bouteilles Bilingues’, based on tactile memories and 2) the iconic ‘Heroes’ series featuring memories of then and now. In 2025 she is working on additional series.
The artist

Van Eyck worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for many years. The computer and software are important tools, but can also be an obstacle. A digital detox suddenly proved necessary. Sculpting in paper, the combination of crafting, painting brought her back to her roots. She is back home in her personal creative world.

In the colourful sculptures with typographical elements and witty details, you can see the artist incorporating her talents, experiences and observations. She is happy to share this with you.

Technique

To enhance the organic feel, the sculptures are mainly made of paper, cardboard and glue, applied in various ways, including homemade papier mâché. The artist does not work with moulds and always starts from scratch. Each unique artwork is hand-painted.
Thanks to a specially designed suspension system, a creation by partner Koen Overloop, the torsos hang seamlessly on the wall.
