Painted sculptures
Joke Van Eyck’s organic ‘painted sculptures’ are based on visual and/or tactile memories. She presents nostalgic series like ‘Bouteilles Bilingues’ and iconic ‘Heroes’ from then and now.
The artist
For many years, Van Eyck was active as a graphic designer and illustrator. She incorporates these talents, experiences and observations in colourful sculptures with typographical elements and witty details.
Technique
To enhance the organic feel, the sculptures are mainly made of paper, cardboard and glue, applied in various ways, including homemade papier mâché. The artist does not work with moulds and always starts from scratch. Each unique artwork is hand-painted.
Thanks to a specially designed suspension system, a creation by partner Koen Overloop, the torsos hang seamlessly on the wall.
